This site is a forum for systems engineers in astronomy to ask questions, exchange information and share tools and techniques. Systems engineers in other fields are welcome too!

Modern observational astronomy is an ideal environment for implementing systems engineering. Astronomy’s complex interdisciplinary systems – very and extremely large telescopes, sophisticated adaptive optics and science instruments, remote and automated operations – can realize benefits through out their lifecycles from applying systems engineering.

Working together with teams of engineers and scientists, systems engineers in astronomy help to answer fundamental questions about the universe’s origin and evolution, explore mysteries of our solar system, seek out and characterize exo-planets, and increase knowledge and understanding of the forces shaping our universe and everything in it.
